Open Training Positions

Emphasis is placed on cementing diagnostic accuracy in Pap smears and non-gyn specimens such as fine needle aspirate FNA specimens, endoscopic-guided biopsies, and specimens obtained by washings, lavage, and brushings. During the clinical months, the fellow will also learn to perform ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration biopsies from four faculty members specialty trained in this growing area of cytopathology.

Up to three months may be devoted to research. Research comprises utilizing techniques such as polymerase chain reaction PCR , fluorescent in situ hybridization FISH , and immunocytochemistry applied to cytology specimens to hone diagnostic and prognostic information.

The fellowship provides training in diagnostic criteria, laboratory methods and techniques for gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytopathology. Fellows are involved in cases from all body sites and become proficient at integrating morphologic findings with clinical history and ancillary studies such as immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and molecular studies. There is emphasis on the rapid on-site evaluation of intraprocedural specimens. Fellows also participate in performing fine needle aspirations of superficial body sites in conjunction with clinicians.

Fellows participate in daily cytopathology sign-outs, departmental teaching conferences, and multidisciplinary tumor boards. In addition to a strong focus on clinical cytopathology, the Program provides Fellows with exposure to scholarly clinical research. Cytopathology Fellowship Openings for , and This one-year ACGME accredited program is designed to train up to three well-rounded cytopathologists and provide advanced training in diagnostic cytopathology and the performance of Fine-Needle Aspirations FNA.

Approximately 12, patient cases are evaluated each year in our hospital-based laboratory, of which about 6, are nongynecologic specimens. FNAs comprise approximately one-third of the nongynecologic specimens. The fellowship offers a broad diagnostic base with extensive opportunities to participate in the rapid on- site assessment of FNAs and the performance of FNAs.

Participation in interdepartmental multidisciplinary tumor conferences and teaching of pathology residents and medical students is required. The fellow is encouraged to initiate and complete a research project and attend national conferences. The fellow is also involved in cytology laboratory management including quality assurance and preparation for CAP inspection.

The program is designed to provide the successful candidate with an in-depth experience that will include liquid based, thin layer cytology techniques, molecular diagnostics, image analysis, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and health services research. Candidates must be Board eligible or certified in anatomic pathology or anatomic and clinical pathology and must have or be eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Kansas.

Commensurate with level of post-graduate training. This ACGME-accredited one-year fellowship program offers advanced training in diagnostic cytopathology. The Cytopathology laboratory at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center processes a total of 20, specimens annually. Teaching is provided through conferences, didactic sessions and daily sign-out of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens.

Fellows are trained in the performance and interpretation of fine needle aspiration biopsies. Laboratory management and quality improvement issues are also included in the training. Fellows will gain experience in the use of air-dried Diff-Quick stains, alcohol-fixed Papanicolaou stains, and monolayer preparations. They will have graduated levels of increasing responsibility. There is substantial exposure to surgical pathology with emphasis on the correlation between these two disciplines, particularly as the needle core biopsies object of on-site interpretation are kept as part of the Cytopathology specimen. Approximately 16, specimens are evaluated annually, including non-gynecologic exfoliative specimens and fine needle aspiration biopsies covering the spectrum of cytopathology practice with extensive use of immunochemistry, flow cytometry, molecular and cytogenetic ancillary studies.

The program includes a 2-week rotation in our solid tumor molecular diagnostics service. The Cytopathology fellows receive training in FNA performance, actively participating in procedures under direct attending supervision with the objective of becoming proficient in both palpation and ultrasound-guided FNA. Appropriate clinical management as applied to surgical and cytopathology diagnoses and interdisciplinary communication is stressed, including case presentation at tumor boards.

A variety of research opportunities are available within the division and the VCU health system, with an emphasis on neuro-oncology. Forensic Pathology Fellowship The positions are located in three of our statewide district offices. The training program fulfills the eligibility requirements for APB board certification. Understanding how to report autopsy findings in court, in consultation with families, law enforcement, and attorneys. Fellows are mentored by nine Board certified forensic pathologists. Co-location with the State Division of Forensic Science permits contemporaneous case consultation with firearm, tool marks, trace evidence, imaging, forensic biology DNA and other forensic science specialists.

VCU Health provides forensic radiology, neuropathology and surgical pathology subspecialty consultation. Fellows are given anthropology and odontology training and the opportunity to attend national meetings with forensic colleagues.

Trainees attend subspecialty courses and reference a medicolegal library, Medline, Internet, and case database. Each district office participates in the teaching of students, residents and other professionals. Fellows will work with staff to undertake a research project. The trainee receives a thorough exposure to all aspects of molecular genetic pathology including infectious diseases, hematopathology, oncology, transplantation, and medical genetics. The VCU Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory is a state-of-the art, 6, sq ft facility that performs more than 25, tests annually.

Fellows participate in laboratory test development and translational research. The fellows are responsible for interactions with clinicians and other pathologists, and test interpretation as the training progresses. Fellows rotate through the human genetics clinical services and in the biochemical genetics laboratory. Hands-on experience is obtained with a broad range of molecular techniques including nucleic acid extraction, real-time PCR, reverse transcriptase PCR, cytogenetics, FISH, SNP analysis, Affymetrix microarray technology, bone marrow engraftment chimerism studies, direct Sanger sequencing and next generation sequencing for cancer and inherited disorders panels as well as whole exome sequencing.

It is aimed at those who have fulfilled a standard pathology residency and wish to specialize in hematopathology in either a community hospital or academic setting. The fellows also evaluate surgical and cytopathology specimens with potential hematopoietic malignancy, and gain experience in the laboratory investigation of anemias, diseases of hemostasis and thrombosis, and other benign diseases of the hematopoietic system. The fellows gain experience in laboratory management through ongoing participation in quality assurance and quality control studies, instrument and procedure modifications, and projects to improve personnel utilization and patient safety.

The daily supervision of residents and medical students in the hematology laboratory is the responsibility of the fellows, and there are a variety of opportunities to participate in other teaching activities, as well as basic and clinical research studies.

Surgical Pathology Fellowship This is a one-year ACGME-accredited program designed for individuals who wish to pursue intense training in Surgical Pathology in an environment that allows graduated responsibility and independent work necessary to build diagnostic confidence and maturity. This fellowship provides the necessary training for the fellow to function upon completion as an academic pathologist with responsibilities in service, teaching, and research, or as a community-based pathologist with responsibilities primarily in service and laboratory management.

Sign-out in Surgical Pathology is subspecialized, assuring trainee interaction with faculty with expertise in specific organ system pathology. The general framework of this fellowship includes: The fellowship allows potential flexibility in the schedule, depending on the fellow's subspecialty interest e. With sufficient preparation, the fellow "mock" signs out the cases as a junior attending with the resident, handles frozen sections and consultation cases, instructs the residents in processing complex specimens.

Surgical Pathology Fellowship - The University of Florida Department of Pathology, Immunology and Laboratory Medicine offers a comprehensive one-year fellowship in surgical pathology that provides advanced and intensive training in diagnostic surgical pathology.

The non-ACGME-accredited Surgical Pathology Fellowship at the University of Florida provides fellows with the opportunity for advanced training and in-depth experience in different facets of surgical pathology with particular interest in Gastrointestinal and Liver, Genitourinary, Breast and Gynecologic pathology. It also prepares them for a career in either academics or private practice. A large volume of surgical and consultation material provides an opportunity for the development of proficiency in the diagnosis of neoplastic and benign diseases, as well as transplant pathology.

Please submit application materials via email no later than September 15, to include: Cellular Therapy Fellowship This appointment will be for one 1 year. This is a training position for an aspiring pathologist in the rapidly expanding field of cellular therapy.

The cellular therapy activities at HUP and CHOP cover the entire range of standard-of-care adult and pediatric bone marrow transplant, from collection to processing to infusion. The candidate will have a wide exposure of different cGMP labs all within walking distance, learn the set up and operation of cGMP facilities, in addition to the actual manufacturing processes.

Cellular therapy is a highly regulated field. There are numerous opportunities for quality improvement projects. Didactic training, either one-on-one with a faculty or part of more formal course, is also available. The overall goal of this program is to develop the competencies needed to become a laboratory director in hematology. In this Hematopathology Fellowship, trainees will be responsible for in-depth study of the principles, applications and clinical relevancy of all tests performed in our affiliated laboratories as well as those sent to reference laboratories. They will be expected to be able to interpret tests, apply quality assurance principles and become proficient in special skills such as light microscopy and flow cytometry.

In the Clinical Pathology Laboratories, Hematopathology Fellows answer front-line questions from clinicians with back-up support from the Laboratory Director. The Hematopathology Fellow participates in conferences, obtains information from, and reports diagnoses to clinical colleagues in Adult Oncology, Adult Hematology and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.

The Hematopathology faculty has broad expertise in teaching morphology, molecular diagnosis, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, hemoglobinopathies, coagulation, classical and molecular cytogenetics, lab management and other aspects of laboratory hematology. Mastery of diagnostic hemopathology and molecular pathology with research leading to publication is strongly encouraged. The diversity of the specimens enables the fellow to have in-depth exposure to and comprehensive training in gynecologic, breast and perinatal pathology, with over perinatal specimens, 16, gynecologic specimens and approximately breast specimens accessioned in the Pathology department last year. At Stanford, we offer a dedicated Genitourinary Pathology Fellowship 1 position per year, pending ACGME accreditation that will provide in-depth training in GU pathology with the goal of becoming a specialist in the field.

The Stanford Genitourinary Pathology Service is rich with both routine GU pathology and advanced consultative material to learn from. Graduated responsibility opportunities include a Junior Attending rotation, presenting at GU tumor boards, teaching opportunities such as departmental fellow-led teaching conferences , and service as a point person and consultant on GU-pathology-related issues.

The fellow takes an active role in all diagnostic services either in Breast or in Breast and GYN, including intraoperative gross examinations, frozen sections and sign out of in-house and outside consultations. Sharma did his medical school training in India and came to the United States in , to an externship at UTMB which allowed him to complete his medical degree. Sharma completed his residency in internal medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and stayed an additional year as a chief resident. In he began to serve as associate chief medical officer, where his focus was on quality, patient safety and assisting with transformation to version 2.

His research interest includes health services, quality and outcomes. Since , Donna K. She also helped facilitate a clinical affiliation between UTMB and CVS Health to enhance patient access to high-quality, affordable health care services, such as medication counseling, chronic disease monitoring and wellness programs. She has been influential in developing many community partnerships across the region. Throughout her tenure at UTMB, she has overseen plans for numerous health care facility renovations and construction projects, including new and consolidated clinic locations, the addition of a new clinical services wing on the Galveston campus, and opened the Jennie Sealy Hospital and League City Hospital.

She has also led the implementation of various cutting-edge health information technologies, including a state-of-the-art electronic medical record system that created a safer patient care processes, a single medical record for patients, and unified scheduling, registration and billing functions across the organization. He is board certified in Infectious Diseases.

His primary responsibilities include oversight and coordination of efforts to eliminate healthcare associated infections. His research and investigative areas of concentration include outbreak investigations, infection control, multi-drug resistant gram negative pathogens and antimicrobial use.

He currently leads efforts to coordinate activities to prevent healthcare associated infections and to improve the use of antibiotics in hospitals through antibiotic stewardship. Srinivasan has published more than articles in peer-reviewed journals on his research in healthcare epidemiology, infection control and antimicrobial use and resistance. She is responsible for the strategic leadership, design, implementation, and monitoring of programs and initiatives that fulfill the mission of the HMH Network; to achieve a high reliability culture focused on person-centered care models which provide an extraordinary human experience comprised of highly reliable quality, empathy and service.

Nancy is an Advisory Board member of the Beryl Institute. Prior to arriving at the University of Maryland, Dr. Wood was responsible for the administrative and operational oversight of the Medical Center and the Director of the Geisinger Health System Center for Systems Re-engineering in Health Care where he was a federally funded investigator in applications of systems engineering to health care.

At the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Wood was a federally funded investigator focusing upon systems engineering applications to Critical Care Medicine. In June Dr. LVHN has over 17, employees, including an employed physician group with over 1, providers.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Bonita Stanton, MD was born and raised in Connecticut. She received her undergraduate degree from Wellesley College where she graduated magna cum laude and was named a Durant Scholar. She earned her graduate degree at the Yale University School of Medicine where she graduated cum laude and was inducted into the prestigious national medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. In March, Dr. Prior to that, she lived and worked with her family in Bangladesh for five years—where she served as a health consultant to the World Bank and a research scientist for the International Center for Diarrheal Diseases Research.

She has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for 25 years. Her research in the U. Blazar is chief strategy officer and executive vice president of Hackensack Meridian Health. He previously served in the same role at Hackensack University Health Network. He is responsible for regional strategic network growth and oversees annual health network and care transformation services line strategic planning and monitoring, network affiliate program growth, new business planning and development, marketplace trends, marketing, communications, public relations and sports sponsorships.

He was part of the team that developed the first of its kind partnership and joint venture with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Together, with the marketing team developed the new brand positioning, logo and identity for Hackensack Meridian Health. He launched a new brand strategy for Hartford HealthCare and led the strategic partnership with a five-hospital network, Value Care Alliance, and Aetna to offer a new co-branded narrow network product to the market.

He also led the merger and acquisition of two community hospitals and a home care agency with senior services including skilled nursing and assisted living. Preceding more than 10 successful years at Cleveland Clinic, Mr. Blazar previously held governance positions on the boards of Clinical Laboratory Partners, Hartford HealthCare Rehabilitation Network, Hartford HealthCare Medical Group, and Billings Forge, a Hartford community development organization that improves housing opportunities for families, encourages economic growth, creates job training and educational advancement, and provided counseling and other services.

He has received numerous distinctions for his work in marketing and communications. Blazar and his wife Nancy, a nutritionist, reside in Westfield, NJ. They have two grown children. He enjoys hiking, biking, gardening and traveling. His career has spanned multiple industries across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa. Alex began his career in investment banking with Deutsche Bank Mexico. After leaving the Clinton Foundation, Alex served as a consultant to corporations in Southeast Asia and other emerging markets, start-up companies in renewable energy and the United Nations.

Deshpande leads and executes clinical quality and affordability initiatives, facilitates design and implementation of value based contracts for physicians and hospitals, and focuses strategy on optimizing the health of populations.

Prior to coming to UHC, Dr. Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Deshpande is on the clinical faculty at Baylor College of Medicine, where he completed medical school and residency training. With longstanding interest in health policy, he worked with Hillary Clinton on health care reform during the first Clinton Administration. Deshpande has special interests in obesity and diabetes prevention and tobacco cessation initiatives. He helps Johns Hopkins Medicine with strategic planning and implementation of enterprise-wide technology projects that impact clinical care, education, and research.

After training in general and cardiac surgery at Johns Hopkins he joining the clinical faculty and specialized in adult cardiac, transplantation, and heart assist device surgery.
